STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT (MGT 60703)

Lecturer:
Mr. Leong Boon Tik

Overview of module:
Chapters in Strategic Management are outlined to teach us on the concept of strategic planning and management. The strategic analysis taught includes 5 Forces of Porter, identifying competitive advantages to derive strategic plan and so forth. This module does not consist of any examination basis, purely on assignments only.

What I have gained from this module:

 Discipline Specific Knowledge

I have learned the way of doing analysis based on SWOT, PESTLE. and 5 Forces of Porter during my individual and group assignment. All the theories are able to be transformed into the assignment work.

 Lifelong Learning

This module required students to be  more independent and able to extract the information get from the internet effectively. To complete this assignment, we are required to do our own research and to identify the answer based on our analysis.

Thinking and Problem Solving Skills
Thinking and problem solving skills are gained during the presentation of our group work. Lecturer has prompt us with few questions during the Q&A session for presentation and this required us to think critically and creatively in order to provide the most effective answers to the questions.

Communication skills
Business case studies are carried out during tutorial hours. We are encouraged to speak and hence the communication skills can be developed.

Interpersonal skills
We are able to practice our leadership skills, especially during the initial stage of the assignment. I have learnt how to distribute the workload to the right person besides tracking others progress during the assignment period.

Intrapersonal Skills
No doubt, most of us are struggling with this interesting yet challenging module. I have made some self-reflection during the hard time in dealing with the individual assignment and advises from friends and lecturer are more than helpful.

Conclusion:
A module where it required us to think deep and far; a module that taught us to think out of a box.

Ending the review with the photo attached below. Credits to the awesome teammates who were there to back each other up especially when all of us are in the peak of meeting deadlines. Thank you :).
